Gains are Gains….. Recognise them and enjoy them!

All too often, elite athletes can be exceptionally critical of themselves, often to the point where even when they are seeing improvements in their practice or training, they will rarely acknowledge it or enjoy it! This self-critical mindset, while driven by a desire for excellence, can overshadow the progress being made and diminish the joy of the journey.


Recognizing improvements, no matter how small, is crucial in sports psychology. It’s easy to focus on the end goal – the medal, the championship, the record – but the journey towards these achievements is paved with countless minor victories. These gains are the building blocks of success, and acknowledging them can significantly impact an athlete's mental health and performance.


1. Boosting Confidence:


Each small improvement is a step towards the larger goal. Recognizing these steps helps build an athlete’s confidence.
