The Paris Olympics this year truly did not disappoint! There’s something magical about watching the world’s greatest athletes come together to compete, and this edition brought that excitement to a whole new level. Whether it was the timeless traditional sports we’ve come to love or the thrilling new additions, every event felt like a celebration of human potential.
For me, the joy of the Olympics lies in its diversity—there’s something for everyone. While I found myself glued to the classic track and field events, I was also pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed some of the newer sports as well.
But beyond the action and spectacle, what stands out most is the mental toughness of these athletes. The Olympics isn’t just a showcase of physical strength; it’s a masterclass in resilience and perseverance. Every athlete who steps onto that grand stage carries years of training, discipline, and an unwavering mindset. They compete not only with their bodies but with their minds, facing immense pressure, setbacks, and the weight of representing their countries. It’s awe-inspiring to witness.
The Paris Olympics reminded us all why we tune in every four years: to witness these athletes' incredible journeys and share in their triumphs and challenges. Watching them achieve greatness not only entertains us but inspires us to push through our own personal battles with the same grit and determination.
Here is a few of my favorite moments
ITS NEVER OVER
The Triathlon and mountain bike races delivered some of the most intense, edge-of-your-seat drama in the final moments! From Alex Yee’s remarkable surge in the last 2 kilometers of the run to Tom Pidcock’s breathtaking final pass on the bike through the woods, these races showed that anything can happen until the very end. Both athletes demonstrated not only skill but sheer determination, making these moments unforgettable and must-watch highlights of the Games.
KEEP IT SIMPLE
It’s incredible how technical and complex modern sports have become, but one event stood out for its sheer simplicity: shooting, thanks to Yusuf Dikec. The Turkish marksman made it all the way to the finals, and while almost every other competitor relied on scopes and visual aids, Dikec took a refreshingly straightforward approach. With his hand casually in his pocket, he stepped up, aimed, and fired with remarkable precision. It was amazing to witness! His no-frills style was a reminder that sometimes, simplicity is the ultimate advantage
UNEXPECTED EXCITEMENT
BMX was a sport I never expected to watch, let alone enjoy, but it was absolutely fantastic! The sheer adrenaline, the speed, and the precision required to navigate those sharp turns and high jumps had me on the edge of my seat. The level of skill these riders demonstrated—balancing agility, control, and fearlessness—was nothing short of amazing. Every race was packed with excitement, from daring overtakes to perfectly executed stunts. It’s a sport that demands not only physical talent but incredible mental focus, and I was hooked from the very first race!
BEWARE THE GIRL AT THE BACK
Sifan Hassan had an absolutely spectacular Olympics, walking away with an impressive three medals. What makes her performance so remarkable is her transition from shorter distances to dominating longer races. As a former 1500m world champion, she was already expected to shine in the 5,000m and 10,000m events, where she earned bronze in both. But it was in the marathon where she truly stunned the world. Despite being an underdog, Hassan stayed at the back of the pack for much of the race, as competitors slowly fell away. With only 800 meters left, she was still part of a small, tightly-knit group. Then came the breathtaking finish—an exhilarating final push that saw her surge ahead to claim gold. It’s a race-ending moment that has to be seen!
TURNING SILVER TO GOLD
After listening to Keely Hodgkinson on the High Performance Podcast, I had a special interest in following her race. Keely’s journey is nothing short of inspiring—at just 13, she faced the challenge of a tumor that left her deaf in one ear, yet she never let it hold her back. Despite a string of silver medals at the Tokyo Olympics and in multiple championships afterward, her determination to push through was unwavering. Knowing her story made watching her breakthrough in Paris, where she finally claimed gold, all the more incredible. It’s a moment of triumph that feels even more powerful when you understand the hurdles she’s overcome.
THAT INTERVIEW
This isn’t the first incredible interview I’ve seen from Tommy Fleetwood, and after capturing the silver medal, he didn’t disappoint. His post-round reflections were full of memorable soundbites, but one line, in particular, stood out: “My biggest motivation in life is to inspire my kids and show them that anything is possible.” It’s a powerful message that resonates far beyond sports. Fleetwood’s humility, perspective, and drive remind us all that success isn’t just about personal achievement—it’s about inspiring those around us, especially the next generation.
HOW MUCH IT MEANS
I watched an interview with Irish boxer Kellie Harrington, and it filled me with pride to be Irish! The emotion she showed and the words she spoke captured just how much this moment meant to her. Her perspective was both refreshing and powerful:
“I’m not looking at anything other than embracing the moment and enjoying it. If I’m happy, like the way I was in there today, I will be happy. As long as I get out of the ring and I’m happy. It’s only sport at the end of the day—that’s all it is. It doesn’t define me as a person.”
It’s a reminder that while sports can feel like everything, there’s so much more to life. And, of course, it was impossible not to feel the wave of never-ending Irish support behind her, cheering her on even after the venue was closed!!
SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO RACE
This was a hell of a finish!! Kristen Faulkner took a gamble, rolled the dice and went for it, the result was well deserved!!
THE GOAT
I think this one truly wraps it all up. Novak Djokovic not only needed the gold medal to complete his quest for “everything there is to win” in tennis but did so with remarkable style and dominance. Facing the best player in the world and then following up with an incredible interview showcases why his mindset is elite. It's no wonder many consider him the greatest tennis player of all time.
In his own words: “I love this sport. I don’t play it just to win tournaments; I play it because I love the competition. I love the drive every day, every week, training my body and perfecting my game, even at this age. This sport has given me so much in my life, and I try to give back with dedication and sacrifice. I train as hard as any young player out there today, maybe even harder. These successes are not coincidences; they come from incredible effort on my part and the support of those around me.”
Djokovic’s dedication and passion for the game shine through, underscoring the extraordinary effort that fuels his legendary career.
