Seek discomfort

If there is one thing I have learned over the years its that sport can be a cruel mistress, and sometimes take you to some deep dark places. This can range from struggling to perform at the level you know you can achieve, dealing with injuries and even just the brutality and pain that you have to endure within certain sports themselves.

It's for this very reason that as an athlete you should seek discomfort in practice and training. Look for difficult training partners, hard challenges and even painful training sessions. Look for those times that will make you question why you play the sport at all, and will make you want to quit.

Those are often the experiences that we must draw upon in the heat of battle, that have hardened us over time, that make us stronger and ultimately help us succeed.
